Ryan made the discovery that Jill was unresponsive and not breathing, which was the beginning of her suffering. Until the arrival of the paramedics, he immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and prayed for a miracle. Jill’s heart was weak, and her breathing was faint, despite the efforts that their father was making.
At the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, the medical staff put Jill in a customized suit in order to reduce the amount of brain damage she sustained. On the other hand, she did not wake up from her coma, leaving Ryan to endure an excruciating wait.
Ryan’s optimism began to diminish as the days went into weeks and progressed farther. The medical professionals advised him that there was no possibility of Jill recovering, and they requested that he give some thought to the possibility of withdrawing her from life support.
“Today could be the worst day of my life,” Ryan wrote in his diary entry from that day, revealing the misery he was experiencing. The most important thing for me to do is to determine whether or not she will pass away. He came to the challenging conclusion that this was the course of action that Jill would choose.
