Late Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, social media celebrity Jake Paul overcame venerable boxer Mike Tyson by unanimous decision, in one of the most unlikely events in the annals of the sport.
With scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 all three judges decided the battle in Paul’s favor.
Paul’s professional record gains 11-1 after the victory, while Tyson drops to 50-7.
Paul commented following the bout, “He’s exactly what I thought, one of the greatest to ever do it.”
Tyson was asked whether he formally quit boxing. He claimed not knowing exactly.
On the broadcast, Tyson remarked, “I don’t think so.” ” Maybe the brother (Logan Paul).”
Paul, 27, a social media sensation with almost 21 million YouTube subscribers and more than 27 million Instagram followers, flew through the bout.
Tyson’s age caught up him after an aggressive opening round. Tyson hardly landed any meaningful punches and seemed slow most of the fight. His offensive performance fell significantly from the mid-rounds on. Taking little damage, the much younger Paul pummeled his opponent with punches and hooks all through the fight.
