Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ Amazon Series From Phoebe Waller-Bridge to be played by Sophie Turner

According to sources cited by Variety, Sophie Turner is very certain to be cast in the lead role of the upcoming “Tomb Raider” television series that will be produced by Amazon.

According to the sources, the transaction has not yet been finalized in its entirety but is anticipated to be finalized in the near future. Lara Croft, the titular tomb raider, will be played by Turner, who will also play the major role. When the program was given the go-ahead by Amazon earlier this year, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was given the opportunity to write and executive produce it as part of her overall arrangement with Amazon. In January of 2023, it was initially revealed that the program was being developed at the streaming service.
Amazon MGM Studios representatives declined to comment on the matter.

When it comes to the popular “Tomb Raider” video game franchise, Turner is the most recent high-profile actress to take on the part of Croft, who was initially introduced in the series. There have been earlier films in which Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have portrayed the globetrotting explorer. Alicia Vikander has also featured in one of these films.

The role of Sansa Stark, whom Turner played throughout the entirety of the eight seasons of the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” is what brought Turner the most fame. 2019 saw her receive a nomination for an Emmy Award in the category of best supporting actress in a drama for her work on the show. In addition, she is well-known for her performance as Jean Grey in the Fox X-Men films that were released later, including “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” Most recently, she appeared in the miniseries “Joan” on ITV and the CW, as well as the limited series “The Staircase” on Max.
She is represented by Hansen Jacobson, Independent Talent Group, and CAA, among other agencies.

Under the terms of a partnership between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, the “Tomb Raider” series is now being created. This agreement is made possible by dj2’s first-look deal with the studio, which allows for the development of new “Tomb Raider” tales into series and films.

In addition to Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, Legendary Television is also responsible for producing the series. Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins, both of whom are affiliated with Wells Street Productions, as well as Michael Scheel and Dmitri M. Johnson, who is affiliated with dj2 Entertainment, are serving as executive producers. Under the name of their Star Party operation, Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina are serving as consultants to producers. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios are the companies responsible for producing the series.
