The palace said earlier that Queen Camilla was getting better from the chest infection that made her take a break in early November. However, the 77-year-old queen says the virus is “hanging on for a little bit.”
The queen consort hosted the prestigious Booker Prize ceremony on November 12, but she had to leave before the winner was revealed. She had missed a few events because she was sick.
Her Majesty is now leaving the Royal Film Performance of Gladiator II, leaving King Charles to walk the red carpet by himself.
Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, came back from a long trip to Australia and Samoa. The king then started his new cancer treatment, and the queen had to stay in bed because she had a chest infection from a bug.
Because she was sick, she had to miss a lot of events, but the palace thought she’d be back to working with the public over the Remembrance Day weekend.
At the moment, “Her Majesty the queen is sick with a chest infection, and her doctors have advised that she rest for a short time,” a palace statement from November 5th says. “With deep regret, Her Majesty has had to cancel her plans for this week, but she really hopes to be better in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as planned…”
But on Remembrance Sunday, the queen wasn’t at the Cenotaph in London. Instead, King Charles laid a wreath at the monument in Whitehall, central London, on behalf of the whole country.
Other members of the royal family, including Kate Middleton, who is slowly getting back to public life after her cancer treatment, and Prince William joined the king to honor Britain’s fallen soldiers. Camilla’s replacement, the 78-year-old Duchess of Gloucester, spoke at the opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on November 7.
A palace aide said, “This is very disappointing for the queen, but she will celebrate privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.” The aide added that the queen had been resting at home for a few days because her doctor told her to.
n the same evening, King Charles held an event at Buckingham Palace for Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Camilla was supposed to co-host this event.
“Literature has always been my passion,” says Queen Camilla. On November 12, she went to the Booker Prize reception at Clarence House, but she had to leave before the winner was revealed.
She told one of the losers that she “really wanted” to go and that she’s “obviously getting much better…” before she left. There is some kind of coughing going on.
The queen said, “I think I’m getting better, but these things always take a little while to go away.” “Every time you think you’re free of it, they come back for a short time. Hopefully I’m better now.”
The king and queen are marking the 100th anniversary of London’s Film and TV Charity on November 13. This is a charity that helps struggling movie theater workers and their families.
But because she’s been sick longer than expected, she’s not going to the highly anticipated opening of Gladiator II at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square movie theater in central London. Charles will have to walk the red carpet by himself.
Newsweek says that the 2024 movie is “the 72nd Royal Film Performance [given] by the charity, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.”
