UNLV Football Player Ben Christman Dies at 21 — Here’s What We Know

A student-athlete from a prestigious university has died, with officials revealing few details. His passing comes after battling a serious injury a few years ago.

Ben Christman, a 21-year-old student from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and a senior offensive lineman of the football team, was found lifeless in an off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning, February 11, according to the UNLV Rebels website.

Christman had recently transferred to UNLV, and his family has been notified. The athletic department has notified the football team, and support services are available to those affected.

UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield expressed deep sorrow, “There is little that can be said to lessen the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family at such a young age, and my heart breaks for all who knew and loved him.”

Director of Athletics Erick Harper described Christman’s passing as heartbreaking and emphasized that he had already made a meaningful impact on his teammates and coaches. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time. Counseling services are being provided for anyone in need,” he said.

Head Football Coach Dan Mullen shared that Christman quickly earned the respect and admiration of his teammates, adding that he was an easy choice for the team’s Leadership Committee. “Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed,” Mullen said.

At this time, no further details about the circumstances surrounding his death have been provided. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will determine and release the cause of death at a later time.
